A one night screening of the classic eco-defense film PICKAXE in support of LOST SIERRA FOREST-CLIMATE ACTION CAMP! We will have info on the camp, a zine table and film screening. Admission is FREE but donations are accepted and encouraged to support this important event.

The U.S. Forest Service hopes to log 217,000 in the Plumas National Forest acres under the phony guise of “wildfire fuel reduction,” spewing 6 million tons of carbon dioxide and $30 million in toxic pesticides, including in ancient rainforest, while fueling 2 polluting “biomass” pellet factories! This is just one part of U.S. Forest Service unscientific “emergency action” logging, putting almost 1 million acres of carbon-storing, wildlife-sheltering public forests on the chopping block over the last year alone. Years after its release, PICKAXE has become a classic document of the potential for grassroots direct action to achieve victory against the forces of both government and big business. An eclectic mix of activists take a stand to protect an old growth forest from logging at Warner Creek in the Willamette National Forest of Oregon, blockading the logging road and repelling the State Police. Over months a community builds around the illegal blockade as it develops into the Cascadia Free State and similar actions spread across the region. Lovingly crafted by the participants themselves, the film expertly presents every moment, from confrontation to celebration.
